Now you're getting it
In December I set up a rule on our outbound email to let me know when people are sending Social Security Numbers in outbound email. Once I was satisfied with the accuracy of the rules, we set up some education for our physical security and HR Recruiters so they would understand why its a bad idea to send SSNs and what some alternative choices are . Once our big offenders had been notified I enabled a notification to the sender ...

News: FBI agents as Facebook friends!
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) may be using fake identities on social networks to investigate criminal activities, according to digital rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). The EFF cites a 33-page FBI presentation obtained through a Freedom of Information request that describes how investigators should collect and use evidence from social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn. The document says undercover operations online are helpful for contacting suspected criminals and victims, accessing private information and mapping ...

News: HTC's "Magic"- Another Malware Detected
When Panda Security found malware on a brand new Android-based Vodafone HTC Magic earlier this month, Vodafone said it was an "isolated local incident." Now, a second phone has been found harboring malware, including a program that turns infected machines into zombies as part of the Mariposa credit card and bank log-in-stealing botnet, according to Spain-based PandaLabs. News: Hacking Cars Now
More than 100 drivers in Austin, Texas found their cars disabled or the horns honking out of control, after an intruder ran amok in a web-based vehicle-immobilization system normally used to get the attention of consumers delinquent in their auto payments. Police with Austin’s High Tech Crime Unit on Wednesday arrested 20-year-old Omar Ramos-Lopez, a former Texas Auto Center employee who was laid off last month, and allegedly sought revenge by bricking the cars sold from the dealership’s four Austin-area ...
