Whoa, way to much to keep up with! Thanks for the ideas everyone. I don't use Outlook, but I used a similar method to get the sender's IP with the built-in Mozilla mail client. Instead of looking at the properties, I went to the source.

there are so many ways to get the ip of someone :D. Just think a little and you'll get some idea's.

for example:

- true msn
- Site visit (was mentiont before)
- true ftp (if he's using or connecting to one)

etc.

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I made this simple script that works like a charm in under a minute. So far 100% sucess rate on any victim I tried :)

IP Grabber - www.whatstheirip.com

This wouldn't come off as spam if I admit I own the site instead of a fake referral would it :) ?

Either way I'll stick around here for the forums, seems to be a lot of useful info here.

nice but this has long been known and used. nowadays hotmail for example will block links and images embeded in a mail message, unless u trick it into thinking the "victim" is receiving an email from a contact or windows live staff. simplest way it to open a port in your computer using netcat and put a command to send a file when a connection is established and send an html mail referencing your IP address and the port u opened like this:

<img src=http://yourIP:port/img.jpg></img>

nc -v -l -p *port*

only thing is that the "victim" is able to easily know ur IP Address, only has to view the mail´s source code.
now please dont bump old threads up unless u have something new to add. thanks ;)

Embed any executable in a JPEG image and get it to run upon opening the image with this cool tool that abuses a feature of GDI in Windows systems. for governmentsecurity.org members only! click here to get it!

This has nothing to do with hotmail or images. It simply creates an innocent looking link that you send to your friend and once he clicks it it emails you their ip.

there is another way more easier then all of them ;)

just look (in outlook)

right click on the mail

option

and there should stand something like that:

Received: from mpostf01.st2.lyceu.net (EHLO mpostf01.st2.lyceu.net) (212.78.205.37)

(sorry for bad english :) )

it should be noted that, that isnt from their computer. thats the ip of the mail server.

twistedps, i'm sure this the ip adres from the computer IF the mail was sended with a mail client (NOT webbased)
But you should check the last "Received"

EXAMPLE:

Received: from 195.130.132.44 (EHLO poros.telenet-ops.be) (195.130.132.44) by mta113.mail.sc5.yahoo.com with SMTP; Fri, 04 Jun 2004 16:18:19 -0700

Received: from localhost (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by poros.telenet-ops.be (Postfix) with SMTP id 3B2A93680A7 for <xxxx@yahoo.com>; Sat, 5 Jun 2004 01:18:19 +0200 (MEST)

Received: from [127.0.0.1] (xxx.kabel.telenet.be [x.x.x.x]) by poros.telenet-ops.be (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1F90C36808D for <xxx@yahoo.com>; Sat, 5 Jun 2004 01:18:19 +0200 (MEST)

What if the end user is using a proxy to hide his real ip address, then its not going to be his real ip address isn't it.

Proxies aren't always a 'sure bet'..
LuciferFallen did a piece (back in ancient history) that caused a 'hacker education' site to get shut down.
Plus there's http://www.fortconsu.../tpr_100506.pdf
So even tor can be 'uncloaked'..
