What kind of router are you using?
#3
Posted 13 May 2004 - 05:54 AM
not using a router,
internet > DSLmodem > Server > hub > 4x pc's
Server is win2000 2 network cards NATING (routing and remote access)
server has the external IP address via DHCP.

something seems to be strange with your network. 192.168.2.2 is a registered internal ip, but you did a lookup and see the rooting from outside your network to somewhere into america. this can't be possible unless someone from america added his ip into your network config (or you screwed up)
recheck your ip tables
/edit
did you use some homepage to look where the ip is? if yes then it might only be their internal ip.
anyways recheck all your ip tables to see what device uses that adress within your network

that's really wierd! the whole 192.168 range souldn't be routable (just like 10.0)
maybe something changed in your routing tables.. does it happen with every pc in your network?
do a "route print" on the machine and post plz

I cant ping it
All internet routers are told not to forward private IP's
Its impossible to ping them outside the private IP range on the internet, no internet routers forward those requests.
But you should already know this, i assume.

Sounds like a long shot but maybe your ISP has bumfed this one up. Most routers, as far as I know, will not route to IPs inside the ranges above, but I'm sure it's possible that 192.168.2.2 could belong to an internal network of your ISP. Shout or route - if the IP address is not present on your network then the computer your using will attempt to route through one of your gateways. What's you're gateway connected to? Your ISP im sure

Those adresses are reserved.
But in this case the word reserved would mean that isp's don't rout those adresses.
So if you trace it to somewhere, i find that verry hard to believe.

Without knowning who your ISP is and doing some research on the IP just before the 192.168.2.2 -- and this is a guess mind you -- I wonder if it's the "backbone" your ISP uses (AboveNet) and an internal network (with badly configured F/W)? I know that my own ISP uses the 10.x.x.x network and I see it whenever I ping in or out... Perhaps something similar?
