I am looking to build a war driving kit. I will be using XP as my o/s.
I understand that there are two types of network cards. One being the Prism II chipset cards and the other type are Hermes chipset cards. Am I right in thinking that Hermes is the better one to use for War Driving? What type of things should I be looking for? Can anyone recommend a good card but no more than 100
Just starting doing my research into it so if anyone can warn me of pitfall's to watch out fall I would appreciate it and any good links or articles they might have.
Thanks ;)

Deal me in. I have a cisco aironet, which I understand isn't prism II, which mean it works with next to nothing. I have to go with kismet on linux to scan. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm about to buy a "real" card, but wanted your advice first. Thx

The orinoco cards are the first and foremost in wardriving. They are the standard for most apps, and they are much better quality. Also, most orinoco cards can handle an external antenna, which is very beneficial.

I would pick up netstumbler and get the latest copy of Knoppix-STD 0.1. It comes with 3 good war driving apps.

I would als check out this link.

http://www.wigle.net/

I shows all the identified access points in a geographic location and it will even give you a map to get there.

Some bootable linux distributions are good for this, for example warlinux

If you go out to netstumbler.com you fill find a ton of information on war driving. also you can find wardriving kits and cards that work well for it.

The site has great information about the cards and lots of wardriving links.

Here is a link to their wardriving kit.

I have found that the antenna really helps.
