Maybe you could look into the following directories

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

or try changing the following reg key:
HKEY_USERS\Default\Control Panel\Desktop\Wallpaper

i would think if you hacked a computer you wouldnt want to draw attention to yourself "changing wallpaper" some criminals are so stupid. not to mention if you dont know how to change the wallpaper romotely you must not not be some major hacker therefor have left many things behind for them to catch you. *me shaking my head*

HKEY_USERS\Default\Control Panel\Desktop\SCRNSAVE.EXE

Change the value of the above key to 'cmd.exe' and it will load the command prompt instead of the screensaver. I tried it and it works well. I know this is off topic but just wanted to share it.

*Yeh yeh .... I was hibernating. I know this isn't something new <_<

If you have remote access, couldn't you just do a Right Click, Properties?
That is added to the "awareness so that he/she can get better security" part.

I'm assuming that the reason that you want to change the background is because you want to write something along the lines of:

"You have been hacked"
or
"We're watching you"

Not with out it's level of fun....but a bit lame

;)

have bin looking around for Various wayz of doing this and so far have found a few items..

there are some asm samples here

and Iam currently trying to tweak this Ibasic Code which I found on the Pyxia Forums..

DECLARE "advapi32",RegConnectRegistryA(computer:STRING,hkey:INT,pkey:POINTER),INT
DECLARE "advapi32",RegCreateKeyA(hkey:INT,subkey:STRING,pkey:POINTER),INT
DECLARE "advapi32",RegSetValueExA(hKey:INT,lpSubKey:string,Reserved:int,dwType:int,lpData:pointer,cbData:INT),int
DECLARE "advapi32",RegCloseKey(hkey:INT),int
DECLARE "shell32",SHChangeNotify(wEventId:INT,uFlags:INT,dwItem1:INT,dwItem2:INT),INT
DEF d1:DIALOG
DEF Name,filter:STRING
DEF vp:POINTER
DIALOG d1,0,0,348,63,@SYSMENU|@CAPTION,0,"Random Paper",Handler
CONTROL d1,"E,,7,9,260,20,0x50000000,1"
CONTROL d1,"B,Browse,272,7,65,25,0x50000000,2"
CONTROL d1,"B,Set Wallpaper,130,36,80,25,0x50000000,3"
SHOWDIALOG d1
run = 1
WAITUNTIL run = 0
CLOSEDIALOG d1
END
SUB Handler
SELECT @CLASS
 CASE @IDCONTROL
   SELECT @CONTROLID
   CASE 2
     filter = "Image Files (*.bmp;*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.gif)|*.bmp;*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.gif|Bitmap Files (*.bmp)|*.bmp|JPG Files(*.jpg;*.jpeg)|*.jpg;*.jpeg|GIF Files (*.gif)|*.gif|"
     Name = FILEREQUEST ("Select a Wallpaper",0,1,filter)
     SETCONTROLTEXT d1,1,Name
   CASE 3
     ret = 0
     vp = Name
     vpsize = LEN(Name)
     RegCreateKeyA(0x80000001,"Control Panel\Desktop",ret)
     RegSetValueExA(ret,"Wallpaper",0,1,vp,vpsize)
     RegCloseKey(ret)
     SHChangeNotify(0x8000000,&H0,0,0)
     run = 0
   ENDSELECT
 CASE @IDINITDIALOG
   CENTERWINDOW d1
 CASE @IDCLOSEWINDOW
   run = 0
 ENDSELECT
RETURN

I will upload the above app Below... but I was thinking that you would need a lilttle command line exe {Perhaps Coder could help} which would have the following features....

App name Chg_Wallpaper.exe

c:>Chg_Wallpaper c:\new.bmp 1

1 = normal
2 = Tiled
3 = Stretched

???

Hidden of course....

Wkd..

Well I have further researched into this and have Discovered this Amazing Resource Site.... Still haven't found the File that Iam Looking for but I believe that it will help us to change the wallpaper on a Remote server...

Iam looking for a component from the Win2k
resource Kit called Regfind.exe

Once I have this File I Would then use the Following code... in a batch file and then compile it to an exe...

The Windows 2000 and Windows NT Server resource kits include the regfind utility, which you can use to find (and change) values in a registry location. For example, you can enter the following command:

C:\> regfind -p HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
"old value" -r "new value"

where "old value" is the old wallpaper name and "new value" is the new wallpaper name. You can add the -m switch and use regfind to modify remote machines:

C:\> regfind -m \\[computer name]-p HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control
Panel\Desktop "old value" -r "new value"

Will get back to looking .... btw that amazing site hotlinked above has some more info on Regfind , Not to mention several other useful little utils...

more info on Regfind here

Wkd..
