Am I Too Old?

Would very much like to get into IT Security, I find networking etc very interesting, and have done some CCNA training, although this stopped before I got as far as taking my exams for various reasons.
Now, I am 45 years of age, and started my IT career quite late, am I a little too late to the party to get any kind of IT Security career?
My goal is a CISSP, which I understand takes 5 years of "hands on" IT Security department experience, and as of this moment, I have zero.
I am currently working on a helpdesk for a pensions company, so my aim is to try to move into Securty internally and work my way up.

Ok. been in IT for the last 7 years or so, not specialised in anything, been doing helpdesk work to a varying level from call logging up to 3rd line stuff.
