Not able to crack md5 hash

I have optained this hash to crack,

b81bb97cf980836e1822b65ff28c091d

but can't, I have tried bruteforcing it with Cain and Able password cracker but not able to find any results I have also tried looking into rainbow tables but do not realy get them at all so can someone point me in the right direction.

Rainbow tables are the only way you'll crack it anytime this year really. Suck it up. Download 15 gigs worth of them and dedicate a part of your HDD to cracking.

There are some web based md5 crackers that use rainbow tables. Just google "online md5 cracker"

is there a reason why you want to crack it yourself?

as stated earlier you can google 'rainbow crack' or head to milw0rm. Sure you may have to wait a little longer but i think that outweighs 15 gigs of hd space?

How can you be sure it's an MD5 hash?

It's 32 chars so it's likely to be MD5. I ran it through JTR for a few hours the other day on a monstrous dual core 64-bit AMD and came up dry. Rainbow tables, bud.

You may want to try MD5 CrackFAST. There are also a lot of online reversing websites that you might want to try (just use Google)

Here's a tip, check the software that generated that password there and figure what's the algorithm because, when you see a md5 hash, it can be a lot more than just a simple md5 checksum. There are plenty other encryption methods that give a final md5 as result.

Thanks for all your help, I was just seeing how easy it would be to crack that hash, which obviously is not so i might have to use that password in the future :lol:
