The question in a short form = what is a free email like hotmail that uses an alternative port from 25.

I am looking for a way to send emails programmatically from my computer. Either using a scripting language like perl or a programming language like C++ I don't care I just want to know how it can be done. As far as I know its very very difficult to use hotmail's smtp to do something like this. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a free smtp server that operates on a different port than 25 since my ISP blocks 25. I can deal with SMTP authentication but beyond that... So anyone?

But there's a solution:
I use gmail's smtp-server. Of course it is for my gmail account, but with this account I can send mails when I'm traveling.
good luck,

You're looking for an open SMTP server on a port other than 25. Unless you can find a buddy on DSL or Cable that can set up a relay for you or if you have access to a permanent system online to setup your own relay, you're outta luck.
I don't think there are any public available smtp servers on a non-standard port. Mostly the spammers and thier trojaned systems.
If you do have a perm system online, most the freeware smtp servers have a configurable port setting you can tweak.
The other option of course is to use hotmail or yahoo but deal with it by programming your mailsends mimicking what the browser is expecting and do it via port 80
