Alrite. This is going to be a very quick and dirty tutorial. Your going to need a tool called SMAC , The version i use and most
likely the version your going to need is v1.1. I will try to spread this aroudn like wildfire so that people can get it. I had it
a long time ago and recently required it again to do what im about to tell you how to do...and i had trouble finding it.

So yes...SMAC v1.1 google it. [ill save you some trouble]

Once you find and install this program. Open it up and you'll be presented with a screen that should be fairly self-explanitory.
If you look to the lower left of the screen you'll see an area titled 'Active MAC Address' with an UP Arrow. Click this arrow.

Now your current MAC Address will automatically move up into the area of what your Spoofed MAC Address will be. Now the specifics
of what goes on behind the scenes at your ISP are not known entirely to me. But i do know that Cable ISP's generally use your MAC
Address as part of the authentication process on their network. Usually when you sign up at an ISP they record your MAC Address,
which is a hardware unique serial number. [pretty much] For this reason you cannont completely change your MAC Address, at least
not in my experience. The only thing we are going to change in the Spoofed MAC Address section is the final number.

So lets assume my MAC Address is 08:00:69:02:01:FC , we would change this to say...08:00:69:02:01:FF. Now click Update MAC.

Now, you can try issuing a ipconfig /release | ipconfig /renew in DOS and it might work now. But you'll more then likely have to
reboot to get your computer to accept the Spoofed MAC. If all went well you'll have a new IP Address.

I could have made this tutorial far more detailed with more underlying info as to what is happening...but if you want that information
you can always find it yourself. Hope you enjoyed this quick and dirty tutorial

Enjoy - Derka

I would like to add that a program is not needed to spoof your mac address. Its possible right through device manager.

I would also like to add that some cable providers such as comcast will not allow you to change your mac address.. IF your mac address is 00:11:12:13:15:16 when you order comcast.... you will not be allowed on the network without that specific mac address.. You would have to spoof all computers you connect directly to it... (or spoof the router) in order for it to work with comcast.

around here most cable companies give internet based on your mac address so if you change it it`s useless. another way around would be scanning the other users for mac addresses and replacing yours with one of theirs smile.gif that way you can dload and the`ll pay for the extra bandwidth.

But do you really think that this is the only way the provider keeps control of there clients? Just with a mac adress?

This is about changing external addresses, not hijacking Wifi where there's a MAC ACL

And no, cable providers do not keep track of clients with a mac table, instead it is used as a security measure. They will sometimes only allow 1 mac address for a connection, which is why there is a clone mac address feature on home routers. Providers use hardware addresses in the cable box which is aside from ethernet.

The method described in this topic will not work with many ISPs. If the MAC address is not the same as the one on the table, security measures kick in and it will not allow internet access. Can be compared to Cisco switches with sticky ports (switchport port-security mac-address sticky).

This guide isn't exactly true.

Not all cable ISP's require your MAC address to login to their network. Even if they do I've seen routers that can spoof their MAC to the ISP.

Also a much better tool to change your MAC address that is in active development is Technitium MAC Address Changer.

I've found the best way to change your IP when you have cable is to login to the box your ISP gave you and look at the lease time. Lease time is how long you have the lease on your IP address before you have to renew it. Once you know your lease time unplug your modem a few minutes before it expires and leave it unplugged overnight. By then someone would have been assigned to your old IP, and you get a new one.

irongeek has a good tutorial if you want to do this using the registry, not sure yet about posting links so I'll provide a partial

web page then ".com/i.php?page=security/changemac"

so make a *.reg file and you can update without any programs
