Full Version: Sending Executables In Via Msn Messenger
Forums > General GSO > GSO Tutorials

This just a short one many of you may be aware of already, but here goes.

Recent releases of MSN Messenger have some bells and whistles security which means you can no longer send suspect file extensions via the file transfer without msn either zapping it before it even starts, or the person at the other end recieving a security alert. For example I am not able to send files with the extentions; .exe , .scr , .zip .

The workarround.

The Bells and whistles security functions of msn messenger are disabled in so far as allowing you to send a .zip with anything packaged inside when one party, ie you use Windows messenger to login to msn.

good tip
not sure how it fits in the tutorial section unsure.gif

as far as I know .ZIP files were always possible to be sent/received.

what they block is executables like exe scr pif cmd bat com hta shs etc...

but hey u dont need to send exes. just rename them to something like file.ex_ and send... then tell the person to rename it to exe. that simple...

of course if the person dont trust u he/she wont rename it and wont execute it.

I believe atleast after version 7 .zip were either blocked by default , or the recieve gets a warning about the unsafe file you are about to send.

this isn't a tutorial, everyone knows to send a file to zip it. Zips were never blocked, they still aren't even in version 8. just exe's and things that can be executable or some unknown file names dont go through

unkown extensions like .giff .JPJ .ABC etc will go through at least on versions 7, 7.5 didnt test on 8. but hey on 8 u have the folder sharing feature what will likely lead to a future attack vetor tongue.gif

you have the folder sharing feature on msn plus too, but most of the people don't use it/knows what is it tongue.gif
