Finally, I have a chmod alterative for DOS thats not cygwin, but it would have been better if this was more organized in a book or PDF.

you reborn an old thread to ask this... could have opened a topic in the beginners section, or better yet, you could have searched google wink.gif

what you are talking about are environment variables, and they must be written between '%' .
Windows comes with default environment variables such as the systemroot, tmp, etc and depending on your windows version the path may vary. for example on windows 2000, systemroot is set to c:\winnt while on XP it is set to c:\windows.
to see all the variables available, type 'set' in the command prompt.
to view a particular variable type 'set variablename'.
to create new variables type 'set variablename="somepath" '
