Netstat Trojan, How Is It Made.

I was just going through some linux rootkits. I saw them replacing the netstat,ps etc files. I was wondering how these are made..like I dont seem to find a netstat source file. Can someone tell me where I can find it.
Am I thinking the right way here or is it done some other way?

http://hakin9.org has an article about this topic (rootkit by replacing linux system files).

i really recommand that u do not replace those files.
use a LKM rootkit, others are not so secure.
