If I get you right, you have dymanic IP. And you need a non-dynamic IP to use some programs? If so, try sign up for DNS services, like no-ip.com or something.

ummm, do you mean a 'real IP' asin a Public IP ?

Asin, your IP your getting is actually, 192.168.x.x | 10.x.x.x | 172.16-31.x.x ? <- which are private IP ranges

Explain what you mean by a real IP ???

See your ISP :P

Its their choice whether you get a dynamic or a static IP, ie, most dialup plans will have a dynamic IP and most connections will get a dynamic IP....

Its costs your ISP money to give out a static IP to every customer, as they need 1 IP per customer, with dynamic, they can get away with having less - in theory (based on the fact not all customers will be connected at the same time)

I pay more per month to get a static IP, much more than what i would need to pay if i just wanted a static IP...

The reason we've directed you to no-ip and dyndns is the fact that you can get your clients to connect to that hostname as their VPN Server, the hostname will resolve to an IP address. no-ip / dyndns etc can update your IP based on the last IP you updated the database with (ie via a client program).

It sucks but its true, to get a static ip (which should never have been refered to as a 'real IP') your going to need the change your internet plans. The other option, because not many people have dynamic IPs and would like to run services such as VPN / HTTP / FTP etc etc, they use no-ip / dyndns so all the VPN clients connect to that hostname, which resolves to the latest IP submitted by you via their various client programs...

You could set up a PPTP VPN, which doesn't need a static ip.

wats your isp?
many ISPs don't change your IP addresses these days... so whatever you find at hxxp://whatismyip.com
will be your real ip --check that for a few days and see if it changes... if it doesn't then, use that as the REAL ip..

dyndns is the place to go if your REAL ip keeps changing...

if you internal ip keeps changing, then u can configure an address reservation in the router, so that the router gives the same internal ip to a workstation... ppl do that if they have a webserver running on the inside host and they are forwarding a port on it.

Just try http://www.keir.net/download/ip2.zip

IP2 is a small program that you can use to determine your IP addresses - both WAN and LAN. What this means is that along with showing you the traditional IP address that your computer is using in its local environment (e.g. a LAN) it will also show you what your IP address is from the perspective of an "outsider" on the Internet. This is in contrast to the many tools and utilities available on the Internet that simply return the LAN address, which is useless if somebody on the Internet needs to connect to your computer.

You can VPN from anywhere, I travel and vpn via laptop from anywhere, as long as you have host server ip and yours you shoudl be fine. Also findnot changes there servers all the time and I vpn to them from different ip's all the time. Maybe it is "PUTTY" that you need?
