Hi all, basically im in a gaming community right now where DDoS attacks seem to be happening quiet a bit. Basically I started doing some research and came across this interesting article on www.grc.com

http://grc.com/dos/grcdos.htm

It is about a 13 year old kid who launched an attack upon grc.com. The author of grc had quiet an adventure which I thought was rather interesting, it is a great read in my opinion of how things work.

Enjoy

edit: I searched for the web address in the search but nothing came up but I just saw this link was posted last August, sorry for the repeated post. On the other hand if you havn't read this, do it now :P

i remember the incident well ... infact we made a joke about it at various news groups...only he could turn a simple Ddos attack into.... an end of the world saga

if you would like further reading about... steve gibson and his methods

you might find this link interesting

I wrote up a nice little post (twice) - but i think it broke too many forum rules during both edits...

To say it all simply, I and many others dont like gibson for the same reason most people dont like politicans - their full of crap....

congratulations Gibson - your opinions mean nothing, 'dont follow an RFC'

His dissection of the attack is educational, though - and would recommend the read - but dont get me wrong - i hate this man's opinons with a passion...

Rules are ment to be broken - RFC's arent little man....

I read a few pages and intend to keep reading more, I do find some of the things that Gibson has done/said to be hilarious though. For example Applauding the microsoft security and attacking linux.

ummm sorry to double post but i was wondering if there was a way that we can get one of those bots posted, maybe not one in the article but one that we can disect and take a look at, it doesnt matter if its detected or not, more the reason for me to prove i would only like it for educational purposes as well... If you think otherwise and think that i am only hout to do ddos attacks you have me all wrong... but i think i could learn a lot from bots like those... please dont give me a warning if i am out of line asking for something like this i am only trying to understand and see how something like this is made

If you take a look at the "Trojan & Virus Errata" Cateorgory it has a post there, it's the first one called "Your search for sources is over" Take a look, but do be respectful to peoples wishes please.
