You can use remote desktop, which comes with Windows XP pro, but you can't control your desktop with any other platform than WinXP pro, which also has the client.
But if you think that remote desktop is also shitty, you don't have any alternative for the full control, because all others are shitty :)
Anyway, you need something for your home computer. It can be WinXP telnet server, or remote desktop, or any other shitty program :)

then you don't have any other choice than using a server program. Win98 itself doesn't offer anything except Netbios file sharing, which is not so secure at all... I will suggest you searching for small server programs with ASP support, or better would be a Telnet server for Win98, install it on the Win98 machine, then you can connect from everywhere to your computer, and you will have a command shell... Or if you want to see certain files and nothing else, use a FTP server, and restrict anonymous access. You can use Xitami for this purpose. Its address is hxxp://www.xitami.com, you can download the latest version. Then just run and enjoy...

Remotely anywhere
Remote anything.

These are progs that you can use for this. Remotely Anywhere is good cause it just uses your web browser as a client.

Remote anything is good because both the client and the server are very very small...

And of course there is VNC and many many more....

If you just want to browse, would you be able to just use the \\IP Address\c$ ? if you just want to browse your local drive, and then just enter your ip address. Im guessing this way is not as secure, and if you had a router, you would probably need to forward the action to the correct computer. I know this works on LANs, but anything outside of that im not too sure.
