Im probably not the person to promote the irc server, but im going to do it anyway...

Many of you already know about the IRC Server, everyone knows what goes on in an irc server. Sometimes in the #gso-chat chan, not much talk happens, but it does happen, and their often good talks about relevant topics.

Anyway, here's a few selling points for ya.

SSL: irc.governmentsecurity.org:9999 - Secure Connection (accept the invalid cert. xchat has the option) 1024bit encryption, and im pretty sure they didnt give the key to the US Government, well, i bloody hope they didnt !

#GSO-Chat: General Conversation about anything GSO (and more just start typing), theres people from all over the world there, so most time-zones are covered, usually have 24/7 user online-ism :P

#rainbow-crack: Biggest channel, great for all questions comments relating to rainbow tables, although, a few obvious not-to-say questions exist (ie How do i generate Rainbow Tables). Many hash's can get decrypted via users rainbow tables, so you'll soon realise the people with what tables and who's willing to help you recover the lost plaintext from hash's

#sploit-news: Live RSS Feeds (yeah i know everyone has them etc etc) but already ive found these feeds useful, and their only going to get bigger, updated as they appear, and have some good sources (more will be added later). The bots are a little buggy, well, just one feed atm, but im sure if more people started to use it, more sources will be added and ideas passed...

-l337-Bot- Welcome, Script Kiddie keeps track of news from several of the most popular exploit and security sites, when they post new news it will automatically be posted in this channel. To manually read some of the latest posts type: $news for a list of available sources

<myth> $news

<script-Kiddy> Please supply a valid feed: CNET-News.com-Security, Computerworld-Viruses-Worms-and-Security-Holes-Feed, ComputerworldSecurityNews, Cracking-and-Reverse-Engineering, ExploitNews, Exploits, PacketStormSecurity, RemoteTools, SecurityFocusNews, SecurityFocusVulnerabilities, US-CERT-CyberSecurityalerts, US-CERT-TechnicalCyberSecurityalerts, Virus

<myth> $news SecurityFocusNews

Script-Kiddy [1] News: Sybase, NGSSoftware near flaw-publishing agreement - http://www.securityf...s/10821?ref=rss
Script-Kiddy [2] News: Companies resist nuclear cyber security rule - http://www.securityf...s/10618?ref=rss
Script-Kiddy [3] News: Three quarters of corporate PCs shun SP2 - http://www.securityf...s/10818?ref=rss

Those feeds dont look impressive, but the auto update feature is great....

The server also has many other channels, ie illmob and programming channels....

For those that are already joined to other servers, add GSO to autojoin, im sure theres much more that you guys could add to make a better 'white' hat community...

<btw, halfway through typing this thread the song Wierd Al - Its All About the Pentiums came on :P>

Awesome....ill log in when i get home from school (where i am atm.)

I have a question, if you don't use SSL, can you still connect to the channel, i mean most channels have one port for normal connections and one for SSL connections, I've just got mIRC I'm not sure what you can really do with that...

for all witch use mirc and ssl and don't want to use the stunnel combination,
they can do this to connect:

1. download http://www.shiningli...n32OpenSSL.html
and install
2. copy the libeay32.dll, ssleay32.dll from your windows/system32 dir to the mirc
dir
3. restart mirc
4. type in mirc /server irc.governmentsecurity.org:+9999 and don't forget the +

Good thinking myth.. Always nice to bug you there.. then again you are doing to do the same to me there! :P
Here is an mirror.. I use this one frequently
eu.eclipticx.net +9999 (SSL) 6667 (Regular)

There are different channels..
There is a #germany and #netherlands ..
even a #gentoo etc..
most of the are created by regular IRC users.. just to help others out..
which is great imo.. !!

PS: Myth .. this isn't 'promoting'.. imo promoting is trying to fool people to buy/do something, while the thing they promote can't do everything they assure them it can and is most probably just junk.. this is all true rolleyes:

If anyone is interested another program to use ssl with mirc...

http://www.bovine.ne...oding/stuntour/

Unzip the contents to your mIRC directory then just load the dll and add a line to remote in mIRC as it says in the readme.
