thought i'd share my first experience in using linux as a desktop enviroment, I have used it before in a server enviroment and was quite pleased with it's capabilities, even this noob managed to recompile his own kernel in a ssh session (google.com =). but neway so a friend of mine came to me with a g4 ibook that he obtained somewhere (he's a good friend and I didnt ask any questions) he said he wanted everything taken off of it and an OS put on it. So I decided it would be a good time to try out linux on a mac. So I went searching for ppc versions of mainstream distro's that are typically user friendly mandrake, debian etc. and after trying mandrake and failing I switched to debian and they seemed to have a better ppc project than the others, and low and behold about an hour or so later I had debian fired up on a g4 ibook, and another happy customer.

though I did have one problem, getting the "airport extreme" card working with debian. I didnt do much digging and he seemed satisfied with wired lan neway so I didnt resolve the issue. but if anyone has a quick solution please post.
