Umm... Kinda of an odd question. Is this a "theach me how to hack question"?

I think so...

As far as hacking you need a bug first:
nessus
google.com
securityfocus.com

You need to know how to use these bugs to gain access. Audviously at this point you need to be able to control a Posix os. Then you might want to keep control over the system so i would look into rootkits.

I don't think you are talking about finding holes in linux... If you are "smashing the stack for fun and profit" i s a good paper.
