Hi,
On my LAN only the server has got windows 2000 rest are windows98 boxes. Is there a way to administrate the server using one of the win98 box, i cant even use the \\server\c$ share. When i try to open it in explorer it asks me for a password. I tried the administrator password but it doesnt work. Tell me how can i specify a username too. Is there a seperate program which can let me execute programs and manage files if i know the administrator password. Like the AT command and C$ share i have been using on windows 2000 workstations previously.

net use x: \\server\C$ /user:administrator

will mount the C drive with the administrator account, and pstools is best thing since sliced bread for remotely controlling a computer.

"net use" from command prompt

Failing that, creating an account on your 2k box with the same name as your 98's login (or pc name...cant remember havnt needed to network 98 & 2k/xp for a few years) and some password for just file sharing, and use that to login when you get prompted for password, *should* do the trick...but it also depends on the policys set on your 2K machine (e.g. NTLMv2 only means no networking with 98)

You can add NTLM 2 support to Windows 98 by installing the Active Directory Client Extensions.

you can access $ from 98 too . If u know the password of account administrator then go to win 98 box and login with username ADMINISTRATOR then u put password and u can access .

This is bcoz in win2000 when u access other pc's on lan it asks username as well as password but windows 98 is different . It asks for password but sends username the one by which u are logged in it :) .

Also make sure u have not disabled LM authentication in win2000 (by default it isnt disabled so if u didnt tweaked then no prob )

Thanks guys!
The net use method works. But still program execution is a problem. the pstools only seem to run on NT systems. Are there any pstools like tools which can run on win98?
