Full Version: Printer Hacking
I'm not sure i know exactly what you are asking but here's what i know.
if you scan for netbios shares it is really easy to find "print$" shares that can be accessed by the same method as any other share (unless you just want to joyride on someones printer this is pretty dumb)
http & telnet many network printers/printservers can be accessed by just using a browser to go to an ip address and these are often not passworded but again kinda pointless unless you just want to mess up the printer. many can be accessed through telnet and again are unpassworded or left with default passes (if you find one just google the printers brand name + "default password" and you can usually get in np.
this is really the only usful thing because they may have tools like ping nslookup that can help you enumerate the internal network. I tend to find alot of hp deskjet printer with telnet open but again you are kinda limited as far as tools.
so basically unless you find something like a printer running uClinux (which is really cool by the way) there is'nt much point in hacking printers
just use superscan4 from foundstone and have it scan ports 80 & 23 only is the best way to find the but you will likely find alot of routers open and beleive me they are alot more useful

Check out Phenoelit. Felix & co have doen some interesting Proof Of Conecpt Work for HP printers eg: getting the Lan printer to scan the network, retrive files off the printers harddrive, etc.
