Welcome to the Network Security Toolkit (NST). This bootable ISO CD is based on Red Hat Linux 9. The toolkit was designed to provide easy access to best-of-breed Open Source Network Security Applications and should run on most x86 platforms.

The main intent of developing this toolkit was to provide the network security administrator with a comprehensive set of Open Source Network Security Tools. The majority of tools published in the article: Top 75 Security Tools by insecure.org are available in the toolkit.

What we find rather fascinating with NST is that we can transform most x86 systems (Pentium II and above) into a system designed for network traffic analysis, intrusion detection, network packet generation, wireless network monitoring, a virtual system service server, or a sophisticated network/host scanner. This can all be done without disturbing or modifying any underlying sub-system disk. NST can be up and running on a typical x86 notebook in less than a minute by just rebooting with the NST ISO CD. The notebook's hard disk will not be altered in any way.

NST also makes a excellent toolkit to help one with all sorts of crash recovery troubleshooting scenarios and situations.

The NST ISO and source code for building the NST distribution is currently available for download.....

I like knoppix STD. Does anyone know of any windows base toolkits?
tweakz20
windows based toolkits? what's so great about windows that you would make a toolkit after it? huh.gif
copyright things would come in, not gonna legally happen

as a matter a fact I do.. called bartpe, he's known for some great dos bootdisks, and he found a way to use windows pre-install environment to make a boot-cd with a gui, it has some sort of plugin-support that allow you to encorparate many programs. I got one that has saminside+adaware+antivirus+network+erd-tools. I spend a lot of time trying to get cain running on it, but never got it working... still the saminside and erd gives 'nice functionality'...

The PE Builder program (pebuilder.exe) runs on Windows 2000/XP/2003. It does not run on Windows NT4/ME/9x.

the os is suppost to be already installed

true, it is not.. you're supposed to have a winxp pro or a win2k3 and build the cd from that.. still it is the closest ms ever got to something (that looks) like a live-distro

bonarez you're right. Operator is a much better toolkit than NST. It's really Rocks!

Anyone tried both Operator and Knoppix-STD? I've tried everything out there in comparison and haven't found one better than Knoppix-STD (incluidng the lame NST one).

I'll download it and give my two cents once I check it out.

Nothing can shake a stick @ Knoppix Std!!!

Just wish Gnome was included along with Kernel 2.6x instead of the ugly and heavy kde !!!!

I made a personal Windows Security Toolkit bootcd out of a modifed UBCD (http://www.ubcd4win.com/) boot disk. It requires a USB stick and throws the SAM and SECURITY hashes on there using Illmob's batch files that he made. Then there's a quick setup and it's ready to go on a rainbow crack.

I'd like to get a boot DVD setup with my 8-character alpha-numeric rainbow tables so I can automate the entire hacking process. I also need to buy a huge USB hard drive. Maybe one of those mini-drives that is like 5 gig or so.

BartPE is a very good alternative if you're a windows fan.
I made myself a Windows Server 2003 boot CD which contain a bunch of tools. Will add more later when I find some goodies =)

Cheers.

Putting the rainbowtables on a dvd might not be such a great idea.. even if you put them on a USB (stick or hdd-enclosure). the transferspeeds are just too slow (imho).

Plus the fact that when you run it from a boot-cd / -dvd you can only crack the hashes on that pc.

comparing hashes with my LM tableset (4gb) can take +6 hours, so I prefer gathering as much hashes as possible before starting a (crack), eh audit biggrin.gif
