I am running red hat 9, though it probably doesn't matter my desktop is KDE

I tried using the gui network interface

I have tried ifconfig:
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 down
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 hw ether (mac address)
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up

I also have tried using MAC changer, I downloaded and installed it. didn't work

I made sure the MAC I was changing to was valid.

I tried doing all these stopping the network service then restarting.

I couldn't get out, I don't think the router reconizes it till I reboot.

I tried all those with combinations of rebooting.

It doesn't stick after reboot, it goes back to my other MAC, even if the GUI network settings say different.

Now I have a spoofed MAC when I boot into my windows partition and it works fine.

Any ideas?

any changes you make with ifconfig arent permanent unless the are in ur /etc/rc.conf
add ur ifconfig parameters there.
typical entries are like this
ifconfig_ed0="inet 127.0.0.253 netmask 0xffffffff"
but i dont see why you cant add hw addy in there too.
