first of all i just wanna say that that is probably not the best question to ask on this board unless your asking to get flamed....if you want to delete logfiles then it might be a good idea to tell us why....

delteing logfiles is bad mmmkay?
total_noob

maybe a stupid answer but IF you want to delete them why not rm -rf /var/log ?

That will definitly delete them!

Huge difference in attitudes in here compard to Windows Systems forum.
That aside, deleting the logfiles should be pretty safe, unless you know the admin is actually competent.

Doing something as foolish as "rm -rf logfile" is something i won't reccomend.http://packetstorm.linuxsecurity.com has a good collection of log cleaners. Check em out.

I would sort of have to side with the flamers, but not so vehemently. I am curious why you would be wanting to delete log files, especially system log files....unless you were trying to cover something up. If you're trying to cover something up, then you should know exactly what you need to do to CYA.

*The funny thing is that I was just looking for a perl script to obfuscate IPs, and I found this site. blink.gif

PErl scripts which do that are all over google or you can script it yourself.
That will clean/delete everything you want even if i 'm not sure to understand what 's the actual purpose ....

heh. I'm suprised you havent been busted into jail. It's that kinda reckless attitude that gets thousands of people chucked. take care of yourself, even though what you said is Fairly true, Fairly being an understatement, there are still alot of very able admins, let's just hope you don't stumble into a trapdoor.... ph34r.gif
