Is there a good link to editing John the Rippers INI file, I found a few results in google searches, but the links were dead.

Basically I want to edit the wordlist rules to make it so it appends / prepends two numbers as well (not just a one number append / prepend check), since I know a lot of passwords use this technique.

The "rules' in the file look like gibberish to me , can someone explain them? Are they normal regular experssions of some sort?

did u get ur copy from http://www.openwall.com/john/ because all the settings in the ini are documented in the ini

Yes, that's where I downloaded it from.

I've looked thru the INI and it does "document" what some of the settings DO, but it doesn't really say HOW, in order for me to come up with a new rule. I could probably just modify one of the already existing rules to make the new one, but how can I be sure it's correct. There must be docs somewhere on this....I'll look around the website some more..

The rules all look like some type of regular expression. Any ideas?
