hey . has anyone successfully compiled dsniff? damn.. really hard to compile that thing.installed all the packages but still not working.

Yes, you need several packages to compile DSniff.

Berkeley DB
OpenSSL
libpcap
libnet
libnids

Go to the faq and follow the links. Note : install those packages in order.

What kind of platform do you use ? I don't have compil dsniff from 2 or 3 years because i find it directly in some linux distribution or under windows

You can find dsniff for windows at http://www.datanerds.net/~mike/dsniff.html

Dsniff is integrated in Debian and some other linux distribution.

well since i'm posting it in linux & unix system.. well im' would probaly be compiling it under linux. the problem is i got all the packages. i heard some tutorial saids it needs the exact packages version. not the latest. darn.. anyway thanks a lot mates tongue.gif

For some packages, you may compile them with support for older version compatibility.

Check out cain at www.oxid.it its the only ARP poisoner I have seen for win32, works great. Its basically like a dsniff for win32, minus some of the nifty dnsiff features.

You can use "google" search and download these file.

dsniff-2.4b1.tar.gz
dsniff-2.4-configure.in.diff
dsniff-2.4-sshow.c.diff
libnet-1.0.2a.tar.gz
libnids-1.16-1.i386.rpm
libpcap-0.4-39.i386.rpm

then

# dsniff 2.4: /tools/src/dsniff-2.4
patch -p1 < ../dsniff-2.4-configure.in.diff
patch -p1 < ../dsniff-2.4-sshow.c.diff
autoconf
./configure --prefix=/tools
make
make install

it ready now!

Now you tell me LOL. I wish I had read this post before I had trashed 2 laptops. The knoppix-std bootable cd is what I have used in the past, but I wanted to compile it for some work I am doing and didn't want to boot off the CD. Jeez now how do I uncompile the progs with the wrong version. Doh!!!!

I am blessed to work with a linux God. He worked his magic and I have 3 RPMS that will install all the functionality I need on RH9. I am going to test it on my laptops tonight. If it works I will post the files and instructions here. Along the way he taught me quite a bit too.

So I am checking to make sure it all works and he walks back in with this url. http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/apt/ libnids libnet and dsniff are all there compiled for multiple OS'es.

Despite all the late nights this week working on this proggy, I still learned some things and had fun at the same time. Which is probably the reason we are in this business to begin with, insatiable curiosity.

Everything worked like a champ. Am I the only one still interested in this thread? LOL.

rpm -i libnet(insert rest of file name here)
rpm -i libnid(insert rest of file name here)
rpm -i dsniff(insert rest of file name here)

Utils are in /usr/local/sbin

Tried it the other way, too many errors and my head started hurting from hitting the wall so many times.
