I was just curious as to whether or not someone could help me locate sources about up to date information about windows and other computer technologies (hardware/software). I am a Tech Support Specialist and by far not a novice user. I am A+ certified and currently seeking a bachlors in Computer Science. So, Please don't ridicul or flame me for asking. I am just fustrated because I read everything I get my hands on and it's seems that my Manager (which is younger then me by the way) always has the answers and will never reveal his sources. I am just tired of not having all the answers and would just like to know if someone could help.

Try using Google ... Or buy a book on a specific subject.

Maybe if you were more specific, i could give you a link or something, "windows and other computer technologies (hardware/software)" is a bit vague, isn't it?

yes i agree with gilbert0... you will need to be more specific in what type of questions and answers your after before we can help you or guide you to various sources of info

perhaps you might think of some Social Engineering methods ..in a polite manner

Here what I do to stay ahead of my stuff.

Every morning I have my little routine,

- I check for new releases / patches / updates on Novell's website (that being the networking OS we support..)

- I come here to see what's going on on the security side (not that GSO is the ONLY resource, but it gives some pretty good pointers...

- Slashdot.org is real nice too, when I want to know what is going on in the general internet/computer/technology world...

- I also frequently read some other french tech. news sites

What about you guys !?

Thank you for the replies, I apologize, the topic was a bit vague.......and I have been able to get some information by means of social engineering.......and I do use google on a daily basis..........especially for when I have an unknown error message and I cannot find the solution to solve the problem. What I basically am looking for is websites or links that will help me as Technician and become better educated about windows.

Here is a copy of my resume, I am only posting it because I want you to understand that I am familiar with windows and I can fix almost any problem with the OS, I just don't know everything and it seems like I am always one step behind.

This curiosity is only because I went on a job interview the other day for a Computer Specialist II position and over all I believe I did fairly well, but the more I think about it I am not sure if I answered some of the questions correctly. And an example of a question that thought I answered correctly but now I'm not sure is: Give a DOS command to partition a hard drive. So without hesitiation I replied FDISK. Well the job description only wanted the support of windows 2000/XP. I asked my supervisor and he said that DOS doesn't even exist in windows 2000/XP only the command prompt. It is just small things like that, that I wish I knew.

Sorry for such a lame post, I am just getting so fustrated with read so much material and it doesn't seem to be coming together. I will keep on reading / browsing the net for answers and taking tutorials online about programming and other things that I peeks my curiosity.

running linux by o'reilly and associates. for that matter, any book released by o'reilly is good. and one word of advice, rome wasnt built in a day relax. take it slow.

One thing I do to keep up with technology is I download a weekly podcast titled "This Week In Tech". It's still fairly new, but it seems like a good source of information.

Just download the new iTunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/, and go to the podcasts section; and subscribe to automatically download every week. You don't need an iPod because you can just play it on your compuer.
