I am looking for a program that can reveal the text behind asterisks. I have seen quite a few but I haven't managed to get any of them to work and searching the forum didn't help much. I need it to run without administrative privileges and preferably doesn't need to be installed. Command line is fine, actually prefered. The ultimate goal of this would be to recover the SID key from a laptop.

winspy does the job for me..
but remember.. it could be that you get some other text out of it..
as some programs change the content of the textbox with another string for the security..
I use it to check the security of the passBoxes used by some apps..
Had a commandline one too.. but forgot it's name and also can't find it anywhere on my hd. ;\

Check the nirsoft site. You will find lots of other amazingly interesting utilities there like password revealers for Messenger, Mail, Dialup, asterisks, network, IE asterisks but also lots of other usefull utilities. Next to sysinternals it is a must have seen site.

it s a great tool, sometimes useful
You don t have to install it, take exe and dll and it works
But doesn t wrok in command line and i think it doesn t exist

Thanks for the replies, I have already tried all of those programs already except winspy and I can't seem to find it on google, unless it is this, http://www.acesoft.net/winspy/ If it is that didn't do much for me =/

The best program so far would have to be the Nirsoft one, astlog.
