He's not quite on his deathbed. If you read about the particular condition you'll know that it is curable. What I think he's looking for, and certainly the internet is the place to look, is an alternate treatment that isn't so painful. To receive 4 shots a day for the next 6-12 months is a rather painful concept.

I suspect as well, he may need more help to deal with slack updates since he'll be rather focussed on something else for the next little while.

Uh huh. And what justifies this statement? And even more importantly, what does it have to do with what this thread is about?
cduke250
ok so maybe its not as fancy as knoppix (god forbid), have as many programs as libranet, be as secure as openbsd, be as user-friendly as redhat, be as nice as mandrake, but what can you fault it for besides fuckn features bro?

Especially on a post about the mans deathbed (ok, ok, alleged)... for christ sake man!

I have tested almost every distro every created.. using vmware or on a actual pc. And yet I still have slackware as my main linux on this multiboot bsd system.. hmm. dead-cow? how?

I sent him some of my thoughts. (I'm an EMT). I was surprised they haven't considered exploratory surgery just to see what's going on, or performed any biopsies. Hope he gets well soon and completely.

he's hardly on his deathbed...
i feel sorry for him though, iv treatments for a few months is horrible.
my grandfather, before he died, had to get 5 units of blood a week and i know it beared down on him. i wish him the best of luck in finding an alternative.

These kind of people need our support. They do the boring stuff that makes a lot of stuff possible, so thanks to everyone who cares.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Slack is a great distro.

Yes slack is my distro of choice and no way is it a dead dog.
Lately some of the ports seem to have been a little dated (maybe due to Pat's illness) but its picking up again.

Does anyone know how to create ports for slackware?. I know there are parameters to choose what goes where when compiling but that is about all i know.

I am consulting some of my professors at VUSM about this case, who knows, they might be able to help him. Diagnosis for the first part was pretty common, and I am sure that the Dr.'s caught on immediately. He spoke of a fever, cold chills, and shoulder pain. Fever is the body's way of fighting off infection, the fact that he spoke of cold chills says that he was running a temp above 102.1. His body was pretty much going into shock. Temperatures 104.1 can cause severe brain damage, and even death. The plaque that he spoke of sounds common of "Pulmonary Edema" which is fluid building up in the lungs. He mentioned something about asbestos, but if it were this agent, he would have noticed blood in the sputum, as asbestos cuts up lung tissue. As far as his shoulder pain, most heart problems are characterized by the numbness of extremeties and/or hemispheres. It sounds more like a growth of some kind. This is just my guestimations though, keep in mind that I am still a student and that ANY of the above information should be taken as an opinion and not considered a medical fact. As far as Actinomycosis goes, I have included a link from the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of health on the subject.
