for all the newbs that want to hack a pc ive made a lil learn order:

(The Script Kiddy Way...)
1. Searching Google Properly
2. Using a Port Scanner
3. Checking For Holes In The Targets Security
4. Finding Exploits For These Holes
5. Downloading, Compiling and Running The Exploit
6. Trashing the targets computer

(and the more respectable way)
1. Advanced Google Search Strings
2. Learn a Programming Language
3. Understand How The Internet Protocol Works
4. Discover New Holes In Well Known Programmes
5. Write Exploits for These Holes (Buffer Overflows etc...)
6. Remaining Undetected On The Targets Computer
7. Use The Targets Computer As A Launch Point For Further Attacks

I reccomend using linux to all the newbs, either get a shell account or download and burn a distro.
All i can say from here is just read read read and when your done reading question question question, (the really curious make the best hackers most the time). Dont be afraid to be paranoid of the feds, if u wanna lockdown your computer you do that.
Try and stick around on sites like this and just keep reading till your head hurts, then take a deep breath and read some more. Hacking isnt something you just pick up over the weekend (unless your a script kiddy) its gonna take alot of commitment to get up there with the best and its sites like this that can help you do that, just stick with this friendly bunch of people and you should be rooting away in no time smile.gif
im gonna stop blabbering on now because i need some more damn coffee, staying up all night isnt as fun any more sad.gif hope this helps motivate someone in some strange way.....

Respect to the people that keep this community alive smile.gif -=TwitcH=-

Ok, I know it's possible to learn hacking with reading a lot, but for absolute beginners, it sometimes just doesn't do it. What I mean is, the best way to get just the basic idea what it is all about would be someone showing you- and when you get the general info, it's easier to find WHAT you have to read, if you want to find something. So the best way of "showing" someone how to hack, would be a tutorial- not telling all, of course, but just how to hack something-anything- step by step. And since there's no tutorial I can find, I just want to know, if there's any you know about? There are some tutorials in "tutorials" topic, but not so much for beginners... I men, how could I, for example, know what "How to hack IIS 5.0 through WebDAV" mean and where can I use it? Let's say I'm a beginner (which I obviously am), I have a web adress, and I want to change the content on the site- so how can I see which server are the files on? How do I get to the server? And so on... This would be the best way to learn about the basics- so then I can continue reading the tutorials and advices on this forum, and I actually know what they are about. Btw, sorry for my english...

No one is going to show you. That's the first thing I learnt. By doing a lot of reading and playing around you will start to work things out. I admit that the little knowledge I have taught myself could have been taught to me probably within a day or so, but it feels a lot more satisfying knowing I figured it out myself.

It's true that to learn to hack you have to hack. The best thing any newbie could do would to be to go and build a LAN at home or maybe with some friends.

The other thing you will always read and its true is go and teach yourself to programme.

Just remember it's a long slow road but a lot of fun. Good luck. wink.gif

I just wanted to introduce myself, and say thanks to everyone who has posted on this thread. I'm basically a complete newb, but I fully intend on reading everything I can get my hands on here extensively. I don't plan on posting too much, at least to begin with. It'll be some time before I have anything worthwhile to say, or any questions that haven't been asked already.

Once again, thanks to all of you who took the time to write up your advice/opinions/resources for all of us newbs smile.gif
