is there any way to mod the firmware to cap the upload from either the router or the modem ?

Ours is a shared connection 0.o .. Need to block upload from either modem or router .

Btw the router is a 4 port Linksys wireless. The modem is D-links

Any help or suggestions are welcome

Well uhh.. Net Limiter is a program that can do it... i repeat a PROGRAM

or u can build a home made router out of any box u find, pentium 1 or so. and install clark connect on it , its a linux router distro with lots of features, even pop up blocking. = ) home made routers are great.

you would need to uncap the modem, ive seen various projects for the surfboard modems, but i wouldnt suggest doing this since your isp would notice it within a few days.

I dont see what uncapping the modem would have to do with anything with what hes trying to accomplish. It sounds as though he wishes to maintain the upload integrity of a specific or a few specific hosts within his network.. Changing the bin or MD5 file in the modem would do nothing more then possibly limit the total bandwidth and this wouldnt do anything on a individual computer situation. And the projects youre referring to if Im thinking or the same ones are so out of date as most ISPS are DOCSIS 1.1 or higher maybe uncapping a Surfboard 4100 was possible back when they first came out and ISPS were ignorant to the fact this could happen but best of luck now and maintaining a connection with them.

have to agree with ssj4conejo on clarkconnect, have used it a lot in the past, and it's a great software router (includes bandwith limiter too).
but since a while linksys has put some of it's firmware open-source. and for some models you can find alternate firmware that may support bandwith limiting.
