SJIS/JIS bug in mIRC client.
SJIS/JIS deals with the display of Japanese characters onscreen, and is disabled by default in mIRC.
Using a specially crafted privmsg, such as
| CODE |
| //msg <nick> $chr(1) $+ PING 000 $+ $chr(160) $+ 0 $+ $chr(1) |
the client of the victim would end up in a loop and freeze.

interesting, nice discovery Gotisch. Now it's time for people to write scripts just to exploit this lovely bug. yay.

nice find! i don't think it will end up being too big a deal if it exploits something thats disabled by default though. i tested it on a friend in IRC (asked him first of course) and nothing happened to him, so he must not have enabled that feature.
