Is there any scanner that gets the windows version and the service pack version out there?

I assume you don't consider MBSA a scanner; I don't. MBSA requires Remote Registry and admin rts to run. Doesn't do ports generally.

St. Bernard puts out some great software called autoupdate expert. Detects everything down to the hotfix number. But it to needs to be able to read the registry.

im assuming he needs the scanner to know what option to choose in the new RPC/DCOM exploit (i.e. he needs to know it ifs 2k svc pack 0,1,2,3,4 orXP svc pack 0-1) GFI supposedly advertises their languard scanner to do this but im assmuming you must have admin access of some sort to know this....
if you wanna know about the exploit read this

tricky problem, is there really no other possibility to get the Ver. of installed Service Pack? Or maybe at least a tool to limit the number of the SP.
without it's a little bit like gambling

w00dy, illwill and I are NOT related. Please note the differences:
- ill is sad, BN is glad
- ill's tongue is hanging out; BN holds his tongue (occasionally)
- ill has ears; BN has no ears, but yet he hears
- ill has no nose; the beardednose knows
- ill's hair is on his head, mine is under my nose : o#)
- BN is the original and was here first!
illwill,
welcome my friend. while imitation is most flattering, I'll assume your likeness is probably just a coincidence. You're welcome either way...
