list of what ports are used for what known programs. Of course this may not be what you are seeing, could just be an unprotected comp.
I havent seen any exploit for these ports... but that doesnt mean they arent out there.

install a firewall, something like kerio or tiny is good. Or, get a router and close everything you dont need open off
Personally, I use both, the firewall and a router.
(although, Im using a hardware router, not something flash or cool like a freeBSD box running as one )

hey erra , hardware routers arnt very safe anymore, do you have your acl files hidden well? is it a switched network? because if its not switched it could be sniffed and if you dont take care of your acl's people will find a way in i dont mean to fraternize you just telling you its possible to get through a router

What really the problem with the security of a hardawre router with NAT? Because with NAT, you need to forward the specific service port to your host in order to gain access form a host on the internet to the host behind the NAT.
Maybe i'm wrong but I always thought that hardware routers were very secure.

to bypass a router you just make a reverse connection with yourself

Anyone who owns a router and has set it up, im SURE is clever enough to look at security updates and to secure his acl files.... *checks ip of erra* lol

I have mucked around with the acls... But I dont usually bother too much with my home machine. The router is Natted, and it switched. And there is the software firewall as well just in case I missed something important..... I know I should take the time to make something a bit more secure... but Im a lazy bastard And my connection sucks.... so no one would be too interested
