hi all
i created an account on a remote PC (Win2K) using a shell
when i share things and try to explore them
its asks for a user and a pass of course it isnt a problem since
i created and account with admin priviliges
but when i use Dameware and try to login it says wrong username or bad
password or some other problem
what could be the reason for that?
any ideas
thanks

Interesting ... are you sure that you dont have any special characters in the pass which might be causing this
also are u totally sure you added the acount to the administrator group?

From my experience, dameware doesn't like user/pass with spaces. Could that be your problem?

i think, the dameware port is blocked

login as built-in administrator and goto control panel => user accounts. add a user with admin priveledge. as far i remember, the pass is case sensitive.
i would prefer to setup a box locally and add a user with admin rights. then go to another box and try to access it from there with dameware. also, try login using the built-in administrator account if it works too.
if the port is blocked, try setup another port other than 6129.

that port has nothing to do with it.
But it don't know what it could be. The things said in this thread seem possible sollutions.

I dont think there is a patch, but why dont you just upgrade, its not hard, and is something you really should do if you haven't for security reasons.

I have seen the nice mydoom autorooter. Excellent work, very nice. However lately I have been looking for a Dameware autorooter. Something like the mydoom that will pull from a txt file of ips. But instead of it exploiting one after the other non stop. After each box it attempts to exploits I was wanting it to say 'press any key to sploit the next box" incase i grabbed one i could old off on doing the rest of the list til i finished with that one. Is there one of these around. Or could someone write up a bat file that would do this.
Thanks in advanced.

Yeah.. I could really use that kind of tool too.. You can't do more than 1 ip with Damewierd. Anoying.

I think you mean this one:

Maybe you don't have rights to log on remotly (But without specially setting this, I have no idea how you have managed this...)

Check that the dameware mini remote control server is started on the remote pc. When it is, the client will authenticate through port 6129, if it isn't then it will auth throuh the IPC share. If remote policies / restrictions are preventing your admin user to access the IPC share then this is probably why.

maybe wrong character in your name or pass, you ascii words, 128 exists
alphanumeric and some # % $, i donīt why, move a user from the server to admin, and test it

It could also be lag. I've had some boxes which only worked sometimes, but those boxes always had bad latency.

There is also little bug in nt utilities with some boxes.
When you add ip to non-browsable machines and click disk drives... It says about user names or something in "Status" box...
After that I do this:
I click Services then double click Remove Services after that Dameware should ask you for username and password.
If this was the problem

Hehe sometimes don't read the whole q.
