Just wondering what your favourite Window Managers are. Please support the reasonf or this window manager. I currently am using Windowmaker, I like it but I feel there can be alot more productivity done with maybe another manager. I have also used Fluxbox and enjoy that as well, but I'd like to here what you guys use. Thanks --dissolutions

I'm going to go with Blackbox. I have no reasons other than my own personal taste. I like the way it looks and its themes, and I like customizing the aterm's so that I can have bitchingly cool looking tinted green transparent terminals with bold white lettering.

Fluxbox is where it be. Fluxbox has everything that blackbox has, and then some. Fluxbox has the best load time out of any decent WM. Fluxbox is extremely versatile and you have the slit. Damn I love setting custom keys to run scripts and what not. Check out the skins for it on freshmeat. Awesome, simply awesome.
So my vote is for the Fluxbox hands down.
XPde is interesting, I won't use it but it is a step closer to a desktop unix os. KDE is pretty, but a resource whore and not as versatile as the Fluxbox.

I have to admit I use KDE with windowmaker for the thin keramak skin that I love. Mainly for looks but I get the most work done with it. The kde interface made my transition from windows much faster.

After I got comfortable with *Nix, I threw out Gnome/KDE. They resource pigs, and that's when I got blackbox. I haven't tried anything else yet, so I suppose I will test fluxbox next.

Is anyone aware of whether some of the Gnome plugins will work in fluxbox? I sort of like the new Mac OS X style menu thingies on the desktop. I know they work in Gnome, but I don't know about anywhere else.

I've also tried fluxbox and its great on older machines. But my favorite of all so far is XFCE 4, only 4.0 + cause 3.0 doesnt look too nice. In terms of weight XFCE falls right between fluxbox and gnome. = ).
Kde and Gnome are also very nice, but i wouldnt recomend it if your comp was under 900 mhz = ).

i used gnome when i first started using linux. then kde, then back to gnome. nowadays i'm using WindowMaker. i think it's awesome. it's lightweight, highly configurable, and not a resource hog like other WM's. WindowMaker get's my vote

I'm currently using XFCE4 for my main computer, it's quite fast (Dosent beat the boxes though), looks uniformed and acts quite snappy. Even though i threw out the panel, and currently only use the tasklist and pager, plus the background thingie so I can get a menu if I feel like doing things with the mouse (What I very rarely do). I have been looking in to FVWM2, but the config files make baby jesus cry. For my 75MHz laptop, I use ion2 if i need X, nothing beats not having to think about anything, and just working. I have here, a screenshot of my desktop as it looks currently, if anyone's interested.

I use fluxbox on my linux box, but that is becaues its only 433mhz and i need something lean and speedy. Now if i could just figure out how to make the windows transparent.

You might want to take a look at either FVWM2 (It can fake transparency), or use the freedesktop.org xserver instead of Xfree, as it supports true transparency, aswell as dropshadows (Something Xfree dosen't). However, you should note that it is still early in development, and thus might have some bugs. It uses the vesa framebuffer driver, and currently dosen't support anything but that.

i got enlightenment, because it really kicks ass with blue steel theme, a trendwhore background pic (depthcore.com) and transparent colored wterms
