Hmm, is it possible 2 determine the running os on a remote server by scanning??

like 127.0.0.1 is running (Red Hat linux ver 7.0) or something like that...

sorry for that n00b question
what
nmap, download it. It uses OS detection through finding certain sockets (winsock, etc. . .) Fairly accurate.

nmap can do it. some other apps can, read up on it there
FakoLy

NMAP and Xprobe2 wins hands down..

its the best for newbies.. pretty easy to use..
and ive also noticed its accurate..
wicked
Xprobe2 is for linux ain't it?

az for nmap yep got that and 10 others somewhere have used and abused em all... ain't found a 100% accurate one yet... but they all work by the same principle scan a few ports , wait for a few reply's compare em to a list of known Reply's look into Crystal Ball ..... weigh them on the scales... and wala Windows95 Plus with service pack eight and IE 17.....

sometimes Guessing gives better Results.... Nemisis << I think is one of the other one's I've used... Dunno got like 60gig's of stuff spread out over several HDD's and 100+ CD's who knows what Gold I have ...not to Mention Krap...on the Probability Scales I say 10% Gold , 90% Krap...<Format's in order I think>

Frsh start with Windblows Short Cock...

THC-Amap
Amap is a next-generation scanning tool, which identifies applications and services even if they are not listening on the default port by creating a bogus-communication and analyzing the responses. Changes: more identifications, bugfixes. Voted into the top-50 security tool list!
