Hello,
I've realised I have a gap in my small knowledge which I always stumble on.
When I dial up on via modem or dsl to my ISP what exactly am I connecting to at the other end?
What are the rules of the ISPs network?I've just found Etherreal and started using it,it's excellent,I can see exactly whats going on and it's totally cleared up my head with regards to NBNS,DNS,ARP,SYNS,ACKS.Well not totally but I have half a clue now.
Anyhow,on our work network I can only see traffic going to my own Mac address even in promiscuous mode since we are all on a switch. So I assume thats the case on the net,how do you get around that sort of stuff?I can only see what my switch sends me right?Or can I fool it?
I've searched around but all I've found is advice to set up a port on the switch to mirror the other ports.Hardly likely unless I can break into my ISP.
Guess I'll go home and try ethereal out,but any of your help is always welcome.
ta.
