I'd like to make an internet connection in knoppix, but im such a n00b when it comes to linux stuff...
Can anyone help?

there are several ways to make the connection in Knoppix/Debian Stnd.

Depending on your connection type, Knoppix should be able to detect LAN Settings and get your IP if AutoAssigned (My Set Up Works fine with no user input), you will need to use the dialup/DSL software that comes with knoppix, gogot www.knoppix.net and look at the FAQ- they should have an article on how to Use your exisiting Connection with Knoppix *(this is unless you're running something like MSN or AOL)...

Knoppix.net also has a very useful forum full of Knopper Gurus biggrin.gif

I'm using a USB cable modem to connect to the internet, so I went to the ADSL/PPPOE configurations and it said it detected a ethernet device. I clicked ok and it said it's searching for a pppoe access concentrator on the device.
after a few seconds it said:

Sorry, I scanned 1 interface, but the access concentrator of the provider did not respond. Please check your network modem cables. Another reason for the scan failure may also be another running pppoe provess which controls the modem.

I have no idea what the hell does it mean.

any suggestions what to do?

I wouldnt recommend using a USB modem.
I was using a NTL ambit USB cm, and tried everything to get it working with RH...I eventually had to install a NIC. My problem was a USB driver issue. Whether that could be a cause of your problem, Im not sure, but I can guarentee that any specific linux forum will advise you to purchase a NIC if you dont have one already (check for an RJ-45 socket at the back of your tower).
They are only about £10-15.

Oh, also try power cycling (turn on and off) your modem before restarting your network controls (system settings I think).

Let us know how you get on! smile.gif
