instructions ... nope :-) sorry gotta write them some day

here's an attempt at writing a simple crash course off the top of my head ...

on the PC that will be the server
1. go to server config
2. choose a port and bind address (if you're not sure about the address, use "Any (0.0.0.0)" - the default of 127.0.0.1, means no one can connect to you from PCs other than this one - choosen as a safe default)
3. edit the default entry in the "folder/user list" so it points to a folder of your choice. change the user and pass to whatever you want (blank for both is valid), set readonly if you want it, and only use NT user after you understand every thing else about this app :-)
4. press the start button on the config server screen, (or select it from the server menu - same thing).
5. you can now close the server, as it will be running as a service.

on the client PC
1. choose edit profiles
2. change the details of "Sample Profile, or use New to create a new one.
3. these details should match those entered in the above section.
4. close this screen and make sure this profile is selected in the pull down list, and press refresh

trouble shooting (always start by turning on the logging in the server)

try using using a browser to connect to the server. if the "Enable download via web browser" option is ticked, and the server service is running, and there is a valid IP connection between the client and the server, then you should see a simple web page with a link to www.steelbytes.com and the name of the server. If this fails, then there is probably a problem with the IP connection.

try ticking "disable persistent connections", leaving this unticked is quicker, but can upset some http proxys.

try ticking "bypass proxy server" some proxys dont get on well with filegateway when the server has persistent connections enabled.

if this doesn't help, try http://forum.steelbytes.com
