anyone know why there are hardly and Linux Virus's??
Im guessing because of the user permissions and stuff, can anyone explain?
d00m
Yes it's true that they aren't as many virii/trojans for Linux as you find for winblowz. Also remember that people use mostly open source applications in linux i.e. you need to manually compile the source...rather then download and use a binary.Permissions are strict and well implemented in linux. But then "rootkits" in linux can rather be quite dangerous..because they give you stealth by automating the removal of your tracks (removing log entrie)..even commands like netstat will be trojaned so that only YOUR IP will not be displayed. Also a backdoor like a ceratin port will be opened show that you can get back in later.Creating trojans in linux is not so hard..infact anyone with some grasp of programming can make their own trojans.

Actually, there are no unix viruses for the same reason there are few mac viruses. Why make a virus when it will infect 100-200 people at maximum? If I were writing a virus, I'd want to to infect a lot of computers very quickly. Right now, the only way to do that is with windows simply because there a about 100000x as many windows users as there are unix users/mac users/linux users.

Yes exactly...*nix virii won't spreak beyond a few hundred ppl. However i remember reading an article on securityfocus.com about "autorooters"..that automatically scan for several vulnearbilities and infact gain access and clear the logs and of course add a backdoor or too.So i think that an effective autorooter can be potentially as dagerous as winblowz worms.
