About BetweenUs
===============
BetweenUs is a real-time chat and instant messaging
program for individual and corporate users who want to
keep sensitive information away from prying eyes. The
strongest encryption algorithms used in BetweenUs
ensure uncompromising privacy that no other chat tool
can offer today. A user-friendly customizable interface
and convenient online directory service provide an
excellent environment for zip-fast secure
communication, file transfers, instant messaging, and
private conferencing with your associates and friends
on the Internet or a LAN.
BetweenUs can be configured to work in three different
encryption modes: public-key mode (uses 3072-bit
Diffie-Hellman key-exchange protocol), symmetric mode
(uses a secret passphrase), and PGP-compatible mode
(uses existing Pretty Good Privacy keys). All the
messages and files are encrypted using the most
reliable and proven ciphers that have resisted any form
of cryptanalysis by the best mathematicians in the
world: CAST (128-bit key), Triple DES (168-bit key), or
Blowfish (448-bit key).
The source code of the program was reviewed by
independent security analysts in April 1999 and no
security flaws were found. BetweenUs was developed and
compiled outside of the USA, and has no back doors or
escrow keys and is not subject to US export
restrictions.
Even if you are not concerned about privacy and security,
BetweenUs is an excellent choice for text chat and instant
messaging for two or several people who don't want to
hassle with public servers and chat rooms. Familiar
IRC-like chat window and ICQ-like system tray operation
were designed to get you started quickly and to let you
enjoy what communication programs are made for: communication!

What's new in version 2.3
=========================
· New private messages received by users can either pop up
immediately (like in the previous versions), or remain
hidden until you click on the program icon in the system
tray;
· On systems with multiple IP addresses you can now set the
rule for using either dial-up or LAN IP address when
connecting to the Directory Service;
· In PGP-compatible mode the passphrase dialog shows the PGP
key for which the passphrase should be entered;
· IRC fans can now use /ME IRC-style command to show actions;
· Bug fix: firewall user/password authentication now works
in full compliance with RFC1929.
