Ok, this is my first post on the forums. I have been browsing for the past few days and i like these forums a lot, tons of good info and whatnot. anyhow i am a total linux n00b, just got mandrake installed for the first time a few days ago. Sounds dumb, but since i have never worked with command line stuff i cant even figure out how to install .tgz programs (ie netcat, gcc, etc) sorry for the total n00b question but any and all help would be most welcome. thanks.

I suggest you visit www.linuxquestions.org and use the search function there. Its got a massive archive of posts and if you really cant find an answer there, post a well researched question and it'll be answered within the hour usually.
