i use knoppix all the time, are you talking about installing knoppix on your hard drive? knoppix runs from memory/cd by default. so- you wouldn't / shouldn't need to worry about any installation woes?
if you are installing knoppix on your hard drive, all of the same rules apply- you will need a boot loader (LILO is cool)

Knoppix-STD is a customized distribution of the Knoppix Live Linux CD. Boot to the CD and you have Knoppix-STD. That would include Linux kernel 2.4.20, KDE 3.1, incredible hardware detection and hundreds of applications. Boot without the CD and you return to your original operating system. Aside from borrowing power, peripherals and some RAM, Knoppix-STD doesn't touch the host computer.
STD focuses on information security and network management tools. It is meant to be used by both the novice looking to learn more about information security and the security professional looking for another swiss army knife for their tool kit.
The tools are divided into the following categories (see the STD Tools section for details):
*
authentication *
encryption utilities *
firewalls *
penetration tools *
vulnerability assessment *
forensic tools *
honeypots *
intrusion detection *
packet sniffers and assemblers *
network utilities *
wireless tools *
password auditing (crackers) *
servers

Comsec, I need ur help once again.. I have given one copy of Knoppix to my friend, he is booting from the Cd.. He says it is not detecting his MODEM, so he is unable to connect to the internet with it.. His modem is Creative Modem Blaster V.90 DI5663 ... What can I do to help him, Download the driver for LINUX or is there any driver for Knoppix?.. Then too, since he is booting from the Cd, how can I configure the MODEM even if I download the driver. Please help, if it not possible, could I install the driver after I installed KNOPIX into hard disk?.. Please help, it is urgent.. Please, all my other friends who use KNOPPIX could help me out here.. If you have links for that MODEM driver, please drop here, I can google, but still I prefer to download from here..

the only reference to knoppix and CL
were these versions that tested working with knoppix..
i dont think you can get one for v90 unless its the.. blaster ext modem
so its looking like an external modem , i have a robotics ext that was given to me..because my internal modem was no good....perhaps someone has another solution....i will keep looking for solutions ...but its looking bleak ATM

Coder, do you have anything to say about my MODEM problem?.. It is not detected automatically, what could I do with that Modem, Well, just find another one that is suitable to Knoppix-std ?... If that is the only way, please give me compatible modem name..

While I truely love Knoppix (especially the STD version) the limitation is that if it doesn't detect it you are normally SOL. You can futz with the bootup options but that normally just helps avoid problem hardware that is hanging the system. You can create your own custom Knoppix CD with the right drivers but that's not that easy.
Or you can do a hard drive install and then update the drivers on the HD (or update the Kernel if need be).

I was thinking the same way you wrote.. But, it will be better to ask about people who know about it before doing something stupid.... It will only help when I go to fix it, So, thanks a lot man... Just wait for all our friends comments on this matter...

Also don't forget after you've done a Knoppix hd install do:
CODE
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
To patch everything up to the latest level, you then have a very nicely installed Debian
