what do you want to do ?this is very important
if you dont know what do you want to do the best languages are C family
(VC ,c++)
they have same structure and C is portable
all language do the same job
you can write soicket program with C ,VB ,DELPHI,...
but if you want to write fast program for socket programming use C
if you want to ONLY write socket program use VB (its too easy and it is very intersing for you )
I AM >>C << programmer and i tell yoi WHY C is good
C is not very very easy for beginer (try BASIC and PASCAL first )
C is PORTABLE (both linux and windows, but VB is not )
C codes are very near to COMPUTER language
C is toooooo fast (VB is not )
but if you are realy begin TRY VISUAL BASIC its easy and use usefull

i'm a beginner delphi coder
i like it, many good programs are also written in delphi (and some are open source so you can learn from those sources)
with delphi the smallest app you can make is about 50-60kb (non-gui) and gui progs are usually about 200-400kb UNCOMPRESSED! (i'm just a beginner, dunno if there are ways to make them even smaller)
but C also looks intresting, i've actually never tried it though
it's up to you

vb isnt even a language ... lol.... (thats wat my teacher told me) if u can make an o there language from a language then u can call it a language ... lol .... ( u know wat i mean ) ...vb is GUI stuff .... thats all .... only good when u want to make gui programs ... u cant make a dos program with VB as far as i know ..
i say
C rulez... i m learnin it now

java is good too but all the exploits i see are in C and C is cool for linux too ... so C it is

FBSL is the easiest to learn and will let you make console apps with easy to understand sockets programming in no time.
http://gedd123.free.fr/Documentation.htmIf you know mIRC scripting but hate using ASM or C or even VB due to the complexity, I would suggest FBSL.

let start :
3 part chose one
C : see,
if you want to write small program it's not too good
if you want to solve mathmatic and ... it great
if you want to hack it very very usefull and great
it portable (win,linux)
if you want socket programming it is nice
if you learn it you can use VC to
not good for bigenner
visual basic :
very easy
for small program it great
it easy to learn (click click click finish run OK)
it's not too good for big program or mathmatical problem
good interface
easy socket programming
HACK :no there is 'nt alot exploit writed for VB (most hacker write their exploit first with C)
i think YOU can learn it and i suggest it too you
becouse you can do everythink you want
asm:
ONLY FOR REAL PROGRAMMER
tooo hard
if you see source code you will die (cracker should learn it )
now we only use it to control hardware ,crack , bufferoerflow (i little to write shellcode)

fluffi , i do much work in x86 assembly , its not tooo hard

Each and every language has a good area of use. C / C++ is a well rounded choice, though.

I'm telling you, socket scripting in FBSL is the *easiest* to learn and do. You can write a ONE LINE script for downloading files off the web. TWO LINES if you want to then execute it. It is really that simple.

at school we start with basic stuff, Delphi, then next year we will start on Java and C, then third year i think we get C++ (this could also be at the 2nd year, not sure).
Delphi is very easy to understand and looks very much like Java, it also doesnt look that much different as C
