Greetings comrades,

I think my ISP may be blocking netbios over tcp/ip and maybe even ICMP.

I was advised to portscan my ISP to see exactly what they have open, but also to make sure I do it via proxy.I've also read that most proxies and anon servers aren't actually anonymous.

Now,quite simply I'm a bit scared to scan my ISP so.....

1, - How do I know if a proxy is actually anonymous, what is a good way to connect anonymously.UNIX shell?can they be easily traced.

2 - what IP address from my ISP should I scan? What server do I aim for?any as long as it's on their network right? Its their firewall doing the blocking anyway.

Cheers.

I dont think you can really portscan you isp, they're gonna have way more than just the one server running. If you want to see if they are blocking netbios try and ping an address you know is up on port 135, or maybe just do your range. If you get no response then they've probably blocked it. Most isps have now since blaster.

Also, if you have a proxy and want to test it I think multiproxy.org have an anonymity tester for http proxies. smile.gif

Thanks I'll take a look.

But surely we can scan just one of their servers and see what they are blocking.

I assume they will apply the same policies across the whole network?

When I wish to test router or firewall rules on a network, I usually setup a vmware box with all port open on the network in question. Then I go to a network I know is open. Easy to find if you are an administrator at another network and know what filter rules are set, and then just sacn the previous box you set up.

Thanks,

But whats vmware?

and another thing,

What about Home user ADSL nad broadband connections will they also block ports?

How about business connections?I assume they leave those wide open since companies will have their own sys admins to take care of security.

Reason being the in order to find somewhere to scan from I need an open network but since we all use ISPs what can I do?

Anyone know of any decent more liberal ISPs in the UK?

Thanks.

Try going to A nice list of proxies as well as a checker for anonimity as well as connectivity.
Try that.

set up a service running on your host on port 135 and ask a friend , if he can scan you . *shutdown your firewall before* . If you are an active host and port 135 is open , nothing is blocked , otherwise ....
