The timeworn caution: This tutorial is for educational purposes and Im not responsible in anyway etc...
-----------------IMPORTANT-------------------------- Before you start:
*After reading this tutorial you will supposedly be able to UnProetect and access any file, folder, or drive protected by Pc Security.
*The instructions in this tutorial are applicable on all versions of Pc Security including the latest version up to 01/09/2003 which is "Pc Security V 6.0".
*This tutorial guides you how to work it up under Windows9x. If you understand it, you will not find any difference or difficulty applying it under any other version of windows ---------------------------------------------------------
1) What is Pc Security: * Pc Security is a windows program used to Lock important files files, folders, and even drives that they become inaccessible. * This program is very useful if the people around haven't read this tutorial.
2) How to UnLock files, folders, and drives Locked by Pc Security?
A) In normal conditions: * I mean by normal conditions: When the "Boot menu" which includes the "Safe mode" option is NOT DISABLED by your system. If the "Boot menu" is NOT disabled, you can bring the "Boot Menu" up by pressing "F8" before Windows Startup Logo appears. (If you are not understanding what Im saying till now, give up reading this tutorial and never touch a computer or even a calculator).
In this normal condition, there are many possible methods to do it:
(METHOD 1) If you boot into the "Safe mode", Pc Security will not run and will not appear in the system tray so all protected files and folders become accessible. Simply you can rename these protected files and folders, restart windows, boot normally(not in "safe mode" this time), and then enjoy accessing the formerly protected files because Pc Security locks files and folders according to their names when windows starts.
(METHOD 2) Instaed of choosing "Safe mode" from the "Boot menu", you choose "Command prompt only." -Now,(I suppose you know a little bit about how to use Dos), use dos commands to rename the files you want to unlock. When you start windows enjoy the files. -While under dos,You can also rename the file "sdaemon.exe" ,which exists in Windows Directory, to whatever you want so Pc Security will not load with Windows when Windows stars and all Locked files, folders, and drives will be UnLocked.
Note: In both METHOD 1 and METHOD 2, if you dont want to be caught by the owner of Pc Security, dont rename the files you want to UnLock. Instead, make your own copies of them and again Pc Security will not catch them.
(METHOD 3) How to (filtered) Pc Security completely? (This method needs an additional normal condition: Registry editing should NOT be Disabled by system) *You do this if you don't care whether the owner of the PC knew or not that you (filtered) his private files and folders. This is simple: 1)* When you are in windows, Go to "Start->Run" and type "regedit". * Open the path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Secsys" * You will find all information about the protected files and folders under this key. * Now delete the whole path. i.e. delete the Key "Secsys" Note: you should do the same with the path "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Secsys" if it exists in the registry.
2) Now restart your computer choosing "Restart in MS-DOS mode."
3) Once in Dos, type "cd WindowsDirectory", for instance "cd windows" or "cd winnt". (without the quotes).
4) Type "attrib *.dru -h -r -s" and press Enter.
5) Type "del *.dru" and press Enter (Two files will be deleted which are "gerced23.dru" and "dwpces23.dru").
6) Restart the computer and let windows start normally.
CONGRATULATIONS, you have set a new password for Pc Security which is "SECURITY" use it and enjoy.
In bad conditions: * I mean by bad conditions any of the following:
1) When ONLY "Safe mode" and the "Boot menu" are DISABLED by your system. -This case is the easiest: You only have only to go to "Start->Run" and write there "notepad c:\msdos.sys" then find the line "BootKeys=0" and change it to "BootKeys=1". -When you are done, try to apply any of the upper mentioned METHODs because the conditions now are normal.
2) When ONLY registry editing is disabled. Having registry editing disabled does not prevent you from UnLocking locked files following (METHOD 1) and (METHOD 2), but it does not allow you to apply (METHOD 3) which fucks PC Security completely and resets its password. In this case you can use any Windows Tweaking program to ENABLE registry editing (I advise WinBoost200x) which you can find on www.download.com . It is very easy and you can do it.
3) The worst condition: When you cant access windows because Pc Security locks the computer as Windows Starts and at the same time "Booting menu" that includes "Command Prompt" and "Safe mode" is disabled. Solution: This problem is solvable but difficult for beginners.
First: Make a "Windows Startup disk" on a different computer. It is simple "My Computer->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Startup Disk tab" put an empty (preferably formatted) disk in the computer and press "Create Disk..." and wait until it finishes.
Second: Go to the Computer protected by Pc Security, put the "Startup Disk" in its floppy disk drive and turn the computer on. The computer should normally boot from the floppy disk and then you find your self in Dos where you can apply the instructions in METHOD 2. (Note: If the computer did not boot from the floppy dirve, you have to restart the computer, press 'delete' to enter 'Setup' and then set the boot sequence to 'a, whatever').

YOu might wnat to know even if the admin disables regedit you can run registry scripts registry.reg for example i tested this by changing ies' caption on my machine back and forth and it worked flawlessly so you may want to try using a reg file if you need to aaccess the registry but test it on anothe rmachine befor eusing it on the target machine
