Full Version: Need Help With Ipc$
kenXP
Hi, whenever I try to use the Ipc$ command it prompts me for a password. If I try to type a password it wont let me. Nothing happens. No letters show up on the screen... why? And I hit enter then it says the user context supplied is invalid. I need to know how to find the password and how to enter it! thanks in advance.

Ok, now I cant access ANY PC on the net using the NETBIOS method! I can access other PCs on my network but not any over the internet. I even had a friend enable file sharing on his PC to see if I could. I couldnt. Any hints tips? Thanks!

I am having similar problems to you.

I can access ipc$ on my lan no problem,I can get the c drive even when it's not shared.Very cool I thought.

Then went to try it on the internet and got nothing.
Even worse than you, I think,I can't even ping the machine i'm trying to access.

I assume by your name you are running XP like me,check your dial up properties/advanced.There are built in XP firewall options which can block/disable netbios and ping.Theses can be set differently for each dialup account you have on your PC.

Anyhow that did no good for me , still can't ping.Think my isp must be blocking it or something.
A guy on here suggested running a traceroute to the IP address in question.
Tried that and the response stopped as soon as it hit one of my ISPs servers.

Does anyone know if ISPs implement NAT to us their clients.

It seems to me that when we dial up we aren't on the internet proper but on a kind of VPN belonging to our ISP.

We have a similar setup at work for our salesmen to access our servers.

Good luck and let us know how it goes, also whats your ISP?

Cheers Ears

Did you enquire with your ISP babaton about your problems?

It would be interesting to see what they say!
