is there a way to find a windows 2000 and windows nt username and password in a file on the hd if so please let me know

look in C:\WINNT\system32\config
and use a soft like Lophtcrack (http://www.evadenet.com/downloads/lophtcrack.shtml)
If u only want to reset a windows account password u can use a soft call
ERD Commander 2002 or 2003 from Winternals.
U can change password without knowing any password....

if
the system is running the SAM file is blocked, you must access with a floppy disk (with msdos + dosntfs, or tomsrtbt linux), then copy and try with LC4 (loopthcrack).
else
you can find a copy of the SAM in the repair directory, and you can access to it whe the system is running. The administrator pass during system installation is there....
