Full Version: After Virus Problems
vnet576
During that computer virus several components of my system got damaged. I've tried fixing them today and ms's website doesn't have the specific problem listed. I tried installing a few of their patches that seemed related to the following problems but they didn't work. BTW..i use winxp pro (no service pack).

First my javascript doesn't work anymore. Basically I can't use any web function that was coded in javascript anymore. I can't click on javascript buttons; on this board i can't use smilies or tags anymore so i have to do them by hand, i can't use webbased email like hotmail, and i can't use windowsupdate.com since that is also based on javascript. There are no error messages or anything these things just won't start/open. Does anybody have any idea what could've happened and maybe how to fix it.

Second my windows search function is trashed. It doesn't work at all...Heres a screenshot.

Third, lol, my windows media player 9 is trashed. This is what i get whenever i try to launch it. I tried reinstalling it but that didn't help.

Fourth..my windows help and support database doesn't work. It just won't start..no errors.

I can't use system restore since all of my entries are from when i had either the first or second virus. Any ideas? thanks in advance.

I could be mistaken, but it sounds like a registry problem.

It might be worth running XPs regristry check, or another reg checking application (cant think of any off the top of my head) to check for any corrupt keys.

Failing that, format and start again.

It could be something completly different (Im not an XP wizard, dont even run it) and perhaps someone might have a better idea to whats happening.

Hope you get it sorted (and someone sorts cosimo!!)

Sounds like you need to reinstall your browser.

As for your help database, sounds like you need to reinstall windows.

hmmm...guess after all that I'm gonna end up doing a reformat cuz now my cd drives are giving it, and reinstalling IE didn't work. Still thanks for the help.

Did Yah try removing the plugins themselves in IE ? tools--internet options --settings -- view objects rip all the BS outta there and try starting fresh alot of the time when your browser freezes constantly certain things dont open etc can be a plugin , or try runnign the IE repair tool depending on the OS and the service pack for IE installed . Add / Revove proggies look for Microsoft Internet Explorer click add remove see if there is an option to repair .. You Will need to restart so if on some killer uptime and yah dont wanna run it chill out on that one
