Full Version: Auto Logoff
tikbalang
is there a software that can logoff a user on the network after inactivity on the desktop?

it would be ideal that the this software can be controlled centrally and can be implemented using the active directory.

i already done some research so i have others alternative in mind like Active Exit XP, Winexit.scr, NetOFF etc.

Killaloop
you think its good to log someone off just because he is inactive?
at work I have two systems, unix and windows, if you would log me off while I work at the unix machine for a few hours you would have serious problems with me smile.gif
the better idea and the only reliable one would be to autolock the system.
and this is pretty easy done

dont get me wrong... i know.

but i already consider autolock/password screen saver... just exploring other alternatives for those people leaving their desktop unprotected during off work hours (let say after office)..and even weekend.

there's a company policy that says "you must turn off all electrical equipment after office" and that's including those desktop. management are sick and tire of giving them memos.

they are hard headed that needs a lesson or two...just kidding but might be the answer here.

Windows 2000 Professional Force system logoff with Windows 2000's WinExit screen saver

Users are not always very good about logging off of their computers when they leave for the day.

However, it might be necessary for all users to be logged off for security reasons or to ensure that processes such as backup can complete successfully. You can force logoff with a screensaver included with the Windows 2000 Resource Kit.

The WinExit (Winexit.scr) screen saver logs off the current user after a specified amount of idle time. When WinExit engages, it displays a dialog box containing a countdown timer and user-defined message. When the timer reaches zero, the screen saver initiates a logoff process.

WinExit requires a registry permissions change to enable non-administrators to use the screen saver. See the Windows 2000 Resource Kit documentation for Winexit.scr to learn which registry setting to change.
